Statistics Terms
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Median | is the middle data value. |
| Mode | the value that occurs most often |
| Range | is the difference of the largest value and the smallest value. |
| Mean | the average of the data |
| IQR | the distance from Q1 and Q2 |
| Outlier | a data point that varies significantly from the rest of the data |
| skewed-left | long tail extending to the left |
| skewed-right | long tail extending to the right |
| symmetricial | perfectly symmetrical histogram |
| bi-modal | histogram has 2 "humps" |
| uniform | the distribution of the data is all equal |
| mean absolute deviation | average distance that the data points are from the mean |
| sample size | the number of data points collected in the sample |
| Q1 | median of lower half |
| Q3 | median of upper half |
| probability | the likelihood that an event will happen |
| impossible | when an event has 0% chance of happening |
| certain | event will definitely happen |
| equal probability | when an event has a 50/50 chance |
| likely | when the event is between 1/2 and 1 |
| unlikely | when the event is between 0 and 1/2 |
| complement | the opposite of the event, it includes all the outcomes that are not part of the original event |
