| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Median | The middle data value. |
| Mode | The value that occurs most often in a data set. |
| Range | A measure of variability that describes how the values in a data set vary. |
| Inner Quartile Range | The difference between the third quartile and the first quartile |
| Outlier | A data point that varies significantly from the rest of the data. |
| Skewed Left | The distribution has a long tail extending to the left. |
| Skewed Right | The distribution has a long tail extending to the right. |
| Symetrical | The shape is perfectly symmetric and can be split into two halves. |
| Bi-modal | If the distribution has two modes. |
| Uniform | If the distribution of the data is all the same. |
| Mean | The average of the data. |
| Mean Absolute Deviation | The average distance that the points in the data set are from the mean. |
| Sample Size | The number of data points collected in the sample. |
| Quartile 1 | Median of the first half. |
| Quartile 3 | Median of the second half. |
| Probability | The likelihood that an event will happen can be given number value. |
| Impossible | An event that will never happen. |
| Certain | An event that will definitely happen. |
| Equally Probable/ Equally Likely | An event that is halfway between impossible and certain. |
| Unlikely | An event that is are closer to impossible. |
| Likely | An event that is closer to certain. |
| Complement | The opposite of the event. |
