| Term | Definition |

| median | a measure of center It is the middle data value |
| mode | a measure of center it is the value that occurs most often |
| range | the range is a measure of variability |
| inner quartile range | it is a measure of variability it represents the differences between the third and first quartile |
| skewed right | if it has a long tail extending to the right |
| skewed left | if it has a long tail extending to the left it is left skewed |
| symmetrical | the shape is perfectly symmetrical because it can be divided into two halves that mirror each other . They do not have to have a perfect symmetry |
| bi-modal | If the distribution has two modes (or humps) it is bi-modal |
| uniform | if the distribution of the data is all the same or flat it is uniform |
| sample size | describes the number of data points collected in the sample |
| certain | an event will definitely happen |
| impossible | an event will never happen |
| equally probable | it is exactly halfway between 0 and 1 (50/50) |
| likely | it is between 1/2 and 1 |
| unlikely | it is between 0 and 1/2 |
| quartile 1 | median of the first half of data |
| quartile 3 | median of he second half of data |
| outlier | a data point that varies significantly from the rest of the data |
