Wave Properties

QuestionAnswer
Medium Something that a wave travels through (Solid, Liquid, or Gas)
Transverse Wave A wave that moves perpendicular to the direction of the energy
Longitudnal Wave A wave that moves parellel to the direction of the energy
Crest The highest point in a transverse wave
Trough The lowest point in a transverse wave
Compression Where the particles are closest together in a longitudnal wave
Rarefaction Where the particles are farthest apart in a longitudnal wave
Wavelength The distance between two corresponding parts of a wave
Amplitude The maximum distance a wave moves away from the rest position
Frequency The number of complete waves that pass a given point in a certain amount of time (measured in hertz)
Wave A moving disturbance that transfers energy through matter or space
