| Family Therapy | Therapy aimed to improved the family as a whole unit |
| Family Triangle | One family member will not communicate with the other but will with a third |
| Flexibility | Willingness to adapt/change |
| Genogram | Provides information and defines relationships across generations |
| Identified Patient | Individual the family regards as the "problem" |
| Rigid Boundaries | Demanded adherence to rules and roles |
| Nuclear Family | Children living with two parents who are married |
| Extended Family | Children living with atleast one parent and one related nonparent adult |
| Single-Parent Family | Children living with a single-parent of either sex |
| Blended/Reconstituted Family | Children living with one parent and parent's spouse |
| Same-Sex Family | Children living with parents of the same sex |
| Chosen Family | Who the patient says is family |
