Heredity and DNA

TermDefinition
Trait A characteristic of a living thing that can be passed on to offspring.
Heredity The passing of traits from one generation to another generation.
Inherited Traits Characteristics or features that are passed from parents to offspring.
Acquired trait A trait or characteristic developed through interactions with the environment. **Something that can be learned
Gene A section of DNA that are the instructions for one trait
DNA A molecule found in your nucleus that tells your body how to develop and function.
DNA base pairs A goes with T G goes with C
What is the shape of DNA? Double helix (looks like a spiral stair case)
Chromosome Tiny X-shaped structures inside the nucleus of a cell that is made up of DNA.
How many chromosomes do people have? 46 total chromosomes 23 from Mother and 23 from Father
Mutation A change in your DNA
