| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Motion | The change in position of the object over time. |
| Reference point (frame of reference) | A fixed point used to determine if something is moving. |
| Relative motion | Motion depends on the observer; an object can be moving for one observer and still for another. |
| Position | The place where an object is located at a given time. |
| Coordinates | Numbers that describe the position of a point. |
| Cartesian system | A coordinate system with perpendicular axes (x, y) used to locate points. |
| Trajectory | The path followed by a moving object. |
| Rectilinear motion | Motion in a straight line. |
| Curvilinear motion | Motion along a curved path. |
| Distance (travelled) | The total length of the path covered by an object (scalar, no direction). |
| Displacement | The straight-line change in position from start to end (vector, has direction). |
| Time interval | The duration between two moments (final time – initial time). |
| Speed | How fast something moves (distance divided by time, no direction). |
| Velocity | Speed in a given direction (displacement divided by time). |
| Average velocity | Total displacement divided by total time |
| Acceleration | The rate at which velocity changes over time (can be a change in speed or direction). |
| Deceleration | Acceleration that reduces speed (negative acceleration). |
| Uniform motion | Motion with constant velocity (no acceleration). |
| Uniform Rectilinear Motion (URM) | Motion in a straight line with constant velocity. |
