Distance, speed and acceleration flashcards
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is the equation for speed? | speed = distance/time |
| What is displacement? | the distance moved in a straight line in a given direction from the starting point? |
| What does the gradient tell us on a distance-time graph? | how fast the object is travelling |
| What the gradient of the line if an object is stopped/stationary on a distant-time graph? | flat line going across the graph |
| What's the unit to measure speed? | m/s |
| what's the equation for working out acceleration? | change in velocity/time |
| What's the unit for acceleration? | m/s^2 (squared) |
| What do velocity-time graphs show? | the acceleration of an object |
| How is deceleration shown on a velocity-time graph? | the line will be be going downwards, the steeper the line the faster the deceleration |
| How is constant speed shown on a velocity-time graph? | straight lien across the graph |
| What is braking distance? | The distance travelled by a vehicle whilst it is braking? |
| What can affect a vehicles braking distance? | . worn tyres . worn brakes (discs/pads) . Road conditions (ice, standing water) |
| What is stopping distance? | the overall distance travelled by the vehicle whilst stopping (the thinking and braking distances put together) |
| What happens to the overall stopping distance when the speed limit increases? | It increases |
| what are some causes that can affect thinking distances? | . tiredness . under influence of alcohol . mobile phones . drugs |
