Fisher v UT-Austin 2016 Abigail sued for racial segregation. UT austin gave automatic in state acceptance to top students, ruled taht admissions met strict scrutiny standard.
Naturalizsation Act of 1790 First law regulating immigrant citizenship. Defined eligibility for citizenship. Limited to free white persons of good moral character who lived in tehe US for at least 2 years. In practice, only white male property owners could become citizens.

Magnuson Act of 1943 Maintain positive diplomatic relations with China during WWll. Allowed entry to cinese laborers, but a quota of 105per year.

Johnson Reed act of 1924 Quota calculation is 2% of the population of each country in the US at 1890. Late ron it turned to those who can trace their roots back. For europeans mosty especially restrictive. Italian quota was 2% of historical italian immigrants, but german was 350%
Asiatic barred zone All asians barred except japan and philippines
Bracero Program Created in resonse to labor shortages during WWll. Promised good wages and housing. 5 million entered. Awful camps.
Operation wetback Military style tactics to remove 1.3 million Mexican immigrants (citizens and unautorized) and relocated far south of the border.
Immigration and Nationality act of 1952 Increased quote for far southa nd east europeans. They were fuly assimliated at this point into white culture. US state dept could rejct entries that depress native wages

Immigration Reform and Control act of 1986 Gave opportunity to apply for documented status to some unauthorized immigrants. Once granted documentation, excluded from public assitance for 5 years.
Illegal immigration reform and immigration responsiblity act of 1996 IRA IRA. 5 million undocumented immigrants, thought of as burden. Signed by Clinton to decrease #. Increase deportation for crimes, lesser and past. 3 and 10 year bans. Make legal status through employer, spouse, brother impossible. Encouraged staying
Arizona SB 1070 Required documentated immigrants to carry identification. Allowed police to arrest solely on suspicion of undocumented. Can't require to carry documentation or arrest just on suspicion by SCOTUS later.
Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Arrive dot provide protection from deportation for dreamers (undocumnted children get a path to becoming documented). Never passed. Obama by executive order.
