Plate Movement
| Term | Definition |

| Crust | Earth's outer layer; the coolest and least dense layer of earth. See also core, and mantle. |
| Mantle | The layer of Earth beneath the crust. |
| Outer Core | A liquid layer, thick and composed mainly of iron and nickel. |
| inner Core | The solid, innermost layer of Earth |
| latitude | The distance north or south of the equator measured in degrees. |
| Longitude | The distance east or west of the prime meridian in Greenwich, England; measured in degrees. |
| Oceanic Ridge | A mountain-like landform that develops when tectonic plates move apart or separate and a new lithosphere forms. |
| Sea-floor spreading | the formation of new areas of oceanic crust, which occurs through the upwelling of magma at midocean ridges and its subsequent outward movement on either side. |
