Radial symmetry Symmetry around a point that is repeated.
Cnidocytes Specialized stinging cells used for capturing prey

Cnidarians two body forms Polyp and Medusa
Polyp A stage in which the cnidarian is sessile, or fixed, in one place.
Medusa A stage in which the cnidarian is bell or umbrella like In shape.
Cnidarians two body layers Epidermis (external) and gastrodermis (lines the gut)
Mesoglea Middle layer that separates the epidermis and gastrodermis
What forms the bell of the jellyfish? Mesoglea
Nematocysts Tiny, stinging structures that are triggered by a mechanical stimulation.
What class is Hydrozoans part of? Hydrozoa
Hydrozoans larval stage and adult stage Larve stage - Medusa. Adult stage - Polyp.
Zooids Polyps with different morphological forms that make up colonial cnidaria.
Planular larvae Hydrozoans produce them through sexual reproduction - Larvae that swim
Examples of Hydrozoans Portuguese Man O' War & Fire Coral
What class is Scyphozoans part of? Schyphozoa
What do Scyphozoans consist of? Larger "true" jelly fish
What is the dominant form for Scyphozoans? Medusa with a rounded bell shape
Examples of Scyphozoans Moon jellies, Pacific Sea Nettle, & Crown Jelly
What class is Cubozoans part of? Cubozoa
What do Cubozoans consist of? Box jellyfish and sea wasps
Where are Cubozoans mostly found in? Australia.
What class are Anthozoans part of? Anthozoa.
What form is dominant for Anthozoans? Polyps.
Examples of Anthozoans Corals, anemones, & sea fans.
How many tentacles do Anthozoans have? They are octocorals which have 8- fold symmetry meaning their tentacles come in a group of 8.
Ctenophores phylum Ctenophora and consists of comb jellies.
Ciliary combs Tentacles which don't sting.
Colloblasts Sticky cells Ctenophores use to capture prey.
