SOL Vocabulary

TermDefinition
vertex the highest or lowest point on a parabola
roots where the function equals zero, also known as the solution, usually 2, 1, or none
maximum the highest point on the graph of an equation
minimum the lowest point on the graph of an equation
axis of symmetry a straight line that cuts the parabola into 2 symmetrical halves
vertical translation the movement of a graph up or down f(x) +k (up) or f(x)-k (down)
reflection "flipping" a graph across a specific line such as the x axis
vertical stretch when a graph narrows or stretches away from the x axis, when b>1
factors the opposite of what DESMOS says, written (x-#)(x-#)
constant a number on it's own; also know as c
