TermDefinition
1. Speed The distance an object travels per unit of time
Velocity Speed in a given direction
Acceleration The rate at which velocity changes
Force A push or pull exerted on an object; force = mass x acceleration
Friction Impedes motion when two surfaces are in contact
Newtons first law of motion, the law of inertia An object at rest or in a motion will stay at rest or in motion unless acted upon by an outside force
Newtons second law of motion An objects acceleration depends on its mass and on the net force acting on it
Newtons third law of motion For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction
Work When an object is moved through a distance in the direction of the applied force
Power The rate at which work is done
