solar system Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune.
planet any of the large bodies that revolve around the Sun in the solar system
star any massive self-luminous celestial body of gas that shines by radiation derived from its internal energy sources.
galaxy a huge collection of gas, dust, and billions of stars and their solar systems, all held together by gravity.
light-year the distance light travels in one year.
universe everything we can touch, feel, sense, measure or detect.
apparent magnitude the brightness measured by an observer at a specific distance from the object.
luminosity the quality of something that gives off light or shines with reflected light.
absolute magnitude the apparent magnitude an object would have if it were located at a distance of 10 parsecs.
