| solar system | Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. |
| planet | any of the large bodies that revolve around the Sun in the solar system |
| star | any massive self-luminous celestial body of gas that shines by radiation derived from its internal energy sources. |
| galaxy | a huge collection of gas, dust, and billions of stars and their solar systems, all held together by gravity. |
| light-year | the distance light travels in one year. |
| universe | everything we can touch, feel, sense, measure or detect. |
| apparent magnitude | the brightness measured by an observer at a specific distance from the object. |
| luminosity | the quality of something that gives off light or shines with reflected light. |
| absolute magnitude | the apparent magnitude an object would have if it were located at a distance of 10 parsecs. |
