| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Exponential Function | A function whose value is a number raised to a variable power. f(x)=2^x |
| Horizontal Asymptote | A horizontal line that acts as a boundary for the graph of an exponential function |
| Initial Value | Also known as the y intercept, when x=0 |
| Domain | set of all possible input values of a function (x values) |
| Exponent | A value representing a power; in an exponential function it is the variable |
| Product Rule for Exponents | Multiply the base and add the exponents |
| Quotient Rule for Exponents | Divide the base and subtract the exponents |
| Power Rule for Exponents | Raise the base to the power and multiply the exponents |
| Power of a Product Rule for Exponents | (ab)^m = a^m*b^m, each base gets the exponent |
| Negative Exponent Rule | Flip the number and make the exponent positive: a^-m = 1/a^m |
| Zero Exponent Rule | Anything to the 0 power is 1 |
| Half-Life | the time it takes for an amount to be halved |
| Range | Set of all possible output values of a function (y value) |
| Exponential Decay | When the base is greater than 0 but less than 1, when it's a fraction |
| Exponential Growth | When the base is greater than 1 |
| Y-intercept | The point where the graph of a line or curve intersects the y-axis |
| X-intercept | The point where the graph of a line or curve intersects the x-axis |
