| what is the role and mechanism of SOD? What is its byproduct? | SOD removes the toxic superoxide anion but generate hydrogen as its byproduct. Copper in the Cu-Zn takes and electron away from the superoxide molecule, then the Cu with the extra electron reacts with another superoxide molecule forming hydrogen peroxide. |
| what to do when you add I2 | You remove one double bond and replace with two Iodines at where the double bonds met |
| What to do when you add 2I2 | You remove two double bonds and replace with 4 Iodines at where the double bonds met |
| What to do when you add NaOH | You add Na + to the O - and make sure to inclue the dots for electrons on O and then add H-O to the remaining of the structure and also include the dots for electrons. |
| What to do when adding PCC--> enzyme | You remove two Hydrogens (they are hydrogen theives) |
| What to do when adding Cu2+ and H-O- | This is only allowed on aldehydes not ketones. Aldehydes contain hydrogen that then allows you to turn it into a carboxylic acid. you change the hydrogen group into an alcohol group -OH. |
| what is the process of myristoleic acid with hydroxyl radical in the presence of an oxygen molecule | The hydroxyl radical abstracts a hydrogen atom next to the double bond, making water and a carbon radical. The carbon radical reacts with O2, and then that oxidized species reacts with another molecule of the starting material: |
