Coloboma A gap or defect in part of the eye.
Competitive Employment Jobs in the regular workforce where people are paid equally.
Congenital Cytomegalovirus (CMV) A virus babies can get before birth that can cause hearing or vision problems.
Daily Living Skills Skills needed for everyday life, like cooking or dressing.
Developmentally Appropriate Practice (DAP) Teaching methods that fit a child’s age and abilities.
Functional Behavioral Assessment (FBA) Teaching methods that fit a child’s age and abilities.
German Measles Another name for rubella, which can cause birth defects.
Job Coach A person who helps someone with a disability succeed at work.
Low-Incidence Disability A disability that is rare in the population.
Meningitis Inflammation of the brain and spinal cord lining, can cause serious health issues.
Motor-Speech Disorder Problems controlling the muscles needed for speech.
Multiple Disability Having more than one type of disability at the same time.
Natural Supports Help from family, friends, or coworkers instead of professionals.
Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICU) Hospital units for very sick or premature newborns.
Night Blindness Difficulty seeing in low light.

Rubella Virus that can harm babies if mother gets it while pregnant.
Self-Determination Being able to make your own choices and control your life.
Self-Injurious Behavior (SIB) Behavior that hurts oneself, like head banging.
Self-Stimulation Repetitive movements or actions done for sensory feedback.
Severe Disability A disability that causes major limitations in daily life.
Sheltered Workshop A work program where people with disabilities work in a controlled setting.
Touch Cues Using touch to guide communication or learning.
Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) Brain injury from an accident or trauma.
Tunnel Vision Loss of side vision; only seeing straight ahead.
Usher Syndrome A genetic disorder causing both hearing loss and vision loss.
