Biology
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| photosynthesis | process through which producers make their own food using light energy, CO2, and H2O |
| chloroplasts | cell organelle where photosynthesis occurs, filled with chlorophyll |
| chlorophyll | green pigment that absorbs sunlight to use in photosynthesis |
| cellular respiration | process through which producers and consumers use food and oxygen to make ATP energy, CO2, and H2O |
| mitochondria | cell organelle where cellular respiration occurs |
| transpiration | water loss through the stomata on plant leaves |
| adenosine triphosphate (ATP) | the most abundant and important biological molecule because it stores chemical energy that can be used by cells in many reactions |
| aerobic | process that requires oxygen |
| anaerobic | process that does not require oxygen |
| reactants of photosynthesis | carbon dioxide, water, sunlight |
| products of photosynthesis | sugar (food for plant), oxygen (waste product) |
| reactants of cellular respiration | sugar, oxygen |
| products of cellular respiration | carbon dioxide, water, ATP (energy) |
| energy transformation in photosynthesis | light energy to chemical energy |
| energy transformation in cellular respiration | chemical energy in food to useable chemical energy as ATP |
