| Organisms | Living things |
| Ecology | The study of how organisms interact with each other and with their environment |
| Habitat | Environment that provides the things a specific organism needs to live grow and reproduce |
| Biotic factors | The part of a habitat that are or were once alive and that interact with an organism |
| Abiotic factors | These are nonliving parts of an organisms habitat these physical components, include water, oxygen space, rocks, and light temperature |
| Population | All the members of one species living in a population area |
| Community | All the different populations that live together in area |
| Ecosystem | The community of organisms that lives in a particular area along with the nonliving environment |
| Population Density | the number of individuals in an area of a specific size |
| Limiting factor | An environmental factor that causes a population to stop growing or to decrease in size |
| Carrying capacity | The largest population that an area can support |
| Species | Is a group of organisms that can mate with each other and produce offspring that can also mate and reproduce |
| Producer | An organism that can make its own food |
| Consumer | Obtains energy by feeding on another organism |
| Decomposers | Break down biotic factors wastes and dead organisms |
| Food chain | Is a series of events in which one organism eats another and obtains energy |
| Food web | Consists of many overlapping food chains |
| Energy pyramid | Shows the amount of energy that moves from one feeding level to another in a food we |
| Symbiosis | Is any relationship in which 2 species live close together |
| Commensalism | Is a relationship in which one species benefits and the other species is neither helped nor harmed |
| Mutualism | Is a relationship in which both species benefit |
| Parasitism | Is a relationship that involves one gram living with on or inside another organism and harming it |
| Competition | The struggle between organisms to survive as they use the same limited resources is called competition |
| Herbivores | Are consumers that eat only plants |
| Omnivores | Consumers that eat both plants and animals are omnivores |
| Carnivore | Consumers that eat only animals |
| Scavenger | Is a carnivore that feeds on the bodies of dead organisms |
