globalization The process in which countries are increasingly linked to each other.
interdependence The reliance of one country on the resources, goods, or services of another country.
barter The exchange of goods and services for other goods or services.
command economy A system in which the central government makes all economic decisions.
market economy An economic system based on free trade and competition.
scarcity A condition of limited resources and unlimited wants by people.
commonwealth A self-governing territory associated with another country.
imperialism an attempt to dominate a country’s government, trade, and culture.
initiative a petition process by which voters can put a proposed constitutional amendment on the ballot.
republic a type of representative democratic government that is limited by a constitution in its' power over citizens. The United States is an example.
koran the holy writings of Islam.
nirvana Buddha taught that a person could escape suffering and reach this peaceful state.
suffering Buddha taught that all life has this.
vedas The holy text of the Hindus.
culture The set of beliefs, values, and practices that a group of people have in common.
culture practice A pattern of behavior accepted by a society.
ethnic group A group of people who share a common culture and ancestry.
temperate zone includes climates like, Mediterranean, humid subtropical and marine west coast.
interest The money that a borrower pays to a lender in return for a loan.
revolution A drastic change in a country’s government and way of life.
