Acute sudden in onset, severe, requires short-term care
Cardioversion a medical procedure that restores a normal heart rhythm when it's beating abnormally or too fast
Depolarization electrical shift in muscle cells that causes them to contract
Repolarization the return of stimulated muscle to the resting state.
Dysrhythmia/arrhythmia an abnormal heartbeat or an irregular rhythm in the heart.
Echocardiography a non-invasive ultrasound procedure that uses sound waves to create images of the heart and nearby blood vessels
Hypertrophy the process of increasing the size, density, and shape of an organ or tissue, usually through cell enlargement
Idiopathic relating to or denoting any disease or condition which arises spontaneously or for which the cause is unknown.
Electrophysiology the study of the electrical activity of biological cells and tissues, including the heart.
Ischemia a condition that occurs when an organ or part of the body doesn't receive enough blood flow, which can lead to a lack of oxygen and nutrients.
Necrosis the death of body tissue, which can occur when cells in the tissue die prematurely.
Murmur an extra sound in the heartbeat that occurs when blood flows through the heart in a turbulent way.
Segment in an electrocardiogram (ECG) is the line between two points on the ECG that are at the baseline amplitude.
Telemetry continuous transmission and monitoring of electrical activity of the heart
Vector the electrical signal captured by an electrode during an ECG.
