Quantitative presenting specific numerical values
Qualitative indicating general values or trends
status reflecting one of a limited number of conditions

representational using pictures, symbols, and color to code information
time-phased using pulsed signals, varying in duration and intersignal interval
relative judgement if a direct comparison can be made of the two stimuli
absolute judgement if no direct comparison can be made
compatibility refers to the relatoinship of stimuli and responses that are consistent with human expectations, resulting in decreased errors and faster response time
conceptual compatibility refers to how meaningful the codes are to the individuals using them
movement compatibility refers to the relationship between the movement of controls and displays and the response of the system parameter being controlled
spatial compatibility refers to the physical arrangement of controls and displays
modality compatibility refers to using the same stimulus modality for both the signal and response
