monument a structure built to remember an important person or event
district a defined area or zone within a city
population the total number of people living in a place
historic important in history; connected to the past
cosmopolitan containing people and influences from many different countries
public transport buses, trains, trams, and other vehicles used by the general public
square an open area in a city surrounded by buildings
pedestrian a person who is walking in a city street or area
crowded having too many people in one place
skyline the outline of a city's buildings seen against the sky
cathedral a large, important Christian church, often historic
cobblestone small rounded stones used to pave old streets
fountain a structure that shoots water into the air, often in a square or park
suburb a residential area on the edge of a city
gallery a building where art is displayed for the public to see
market an outdoor place where people buy and sell goods
promenade a wide path or road along the seafront or river for walking
medieval relating to the Middle Ages (roughly 500–1500 AD); very old
ruins the remains of old buildings that have been destroyed or damaged
cuisine the style of cooking typical of a particular country or region
tram an electric vehicle that runs on rails along city streets
harbour a sheltered area of water where boats and ships can anchor
boulevard a wide city road, often lined with trees
locals people who live in a particular area or city
fortress a large strong building built to defend against attacks
lively full of energy and activity; busy in an enjoyable way
UNESCO heritage a place officially recognised by UNESCO as important to world culture
scenic having beautiful natural or urban views
bustling full of busy, noisy activity
