| Agglunation | clumping of blood |
| Alveoli | air sacs where blood exchange occurs |
| Anemia | lack of red blood cells and/or hemoglobin |
| Aneurysm | weakening of the wall of a blood vessel, causing it to bulge outwards. |
| Antibodies | proteins that attach to and disable bacteria and viruses. |
| Anitgens | proteins that cover the surface of each red blood cell |
| Arteries | carry blood away from the heart |
| Atherosclerosis | a buildup of lipids, calcium, or cell debris that gradually restricts blood flow |
| Atrioventricular node | receives the signal from the sinoatrial node and passes it through two bundle branches |
| Bradycardia | heart rate that is below 60 beats per minute |
| Capillaries | move blood from arteries to veins, and allow the diffusion of oxygen and carbon dioxide |
| Embolus | a thrombus that breaks away, floats in the bloodstream, and clogs a vessel farther away (e.g. the brain) |
| Enthrocytes | red blood cells, transport oxygen from the lungs to body cells. |
| Fibrinogen | protein which is part of blood clotting |
| Foramen ovale | a hole that bypasses the lungs in a fetus as they are nonfunctional, closes at birth |
| Hematoma | swelling of clotted blood within a tissue |
| Hematopoiesis | erythryocyte production, occurs within red bone marrow, and is regulated by the kidneys. |
| Hemoglobin | a protein that binds to oxygen, causes the red color of blood and red blood cells |
| Hemophilia | a hereditary disorder that impairs the body’s ability to control blood clotting |
| Homostasis | stoppage of bleeding from a break in a blood vessel |
| Leukocytes | white blood cells, circulate throughout blood and fight disease and infection. |
| Plasma | a mixture of 92% water, proteins, nutrients, electrolytes, and wastes. |
| Platelets | fragments of cells that aid in blood clotting |
| Pleura | serous membrane that covers the surface of lungs and the wall of the cavity |
| Pnumothorax | a collapsed lobe of a lung that occurs due to a puncture wound, broken rib, or gunshot. |
| Ploycythemia | a condition where the percentage of red blood cells is too high. |
| Purkinje fibers | carry the contraction impulse through the muscle of the right and left ventricles, causing them to contract |
| Sinoatrial node | originates an electrical impulse, which travels across the atria |
| Tachycardia | a contraction of the ventricles or atria at a rate above 100 beats per minute |
| Thrombua | the formation of a blood clot inside one of your blood vessels or a chamber of your heart |
| Veins | carry blood towards the heart |
