IV push

QuestionAnswer
First steps Med checks, check push time, check compatibility.
Second steps Pop the top off the vial, alcohol swab for 15 seconds, draw up an mL, slide needle back into cap and put back into packaging
Third steps Check IV for patency, use iv port closest to patient, scrub IV hub for 15 seconds, connect syringe, pinch tubing, and give a quarter mL
What is the variation for an incompatible iv push? Stop the pump and keep it pinched the entire time, Use a new alc pad for every access when swapping between med and saline, flush first. saline lock is the same.
