Organism Living thing
Habitat An environment that provides the things a specific organism needs to live, grow, and reproduce
Biotic factor Parts of a habitat that are or were once alive.
Abiotic factor Nonliving parts of an organism habitat
Species A group of organisms that can make with each other and produce offspring
Population All members of one species living in a particular area
Community All different populations that live together
Ecosystem The community of organisms that live in the particular area along with nonliving environment.
Ecology Study of how organisms in a each other and their environment.
Producer An organism that can make its own food.
Scavenger Is a carnivore that feeds on bodies that are dead
Herbivores Only eat plants
Decomposers Break down biotic waste and dead organisms
Food chain Series of events in which one organism eats another and obtains energy
Food web Consists of many overlapping food chains in an ecosystem
Energy pyramid Shows the amount of energy that moves from one feeding level to another
Photosynthesis Is a set of a chemical reaction plants use to turn light water and nutrients into oxygen and energy
Chlorophyll Absorbs light
Autotroph An organism that makes its food
Heterotroph It has to get its food from a source and unable to make it.
Symbiosis Is any relationship in which two species live closely together
Commensalism Is a relationship in which one species benefits and the other species is neither helped nor harmed
Mutualism Which is a relationship in both species benefit
Parasitism Is a relationship that involves one organism living with on or inside another organism and harming it.
Population Density The number of individuals in an area of a specific size
Limiting factor Environmental factor that causes a population to stop growing.
Consumer Obtains energy by feeding on other organisms
Interactions Take place among organisms
Competition The struggle between organisms to survive as they use the same limited resources
Predation One organism is kills another for food or nutrients
