Ecosystems
| Organism | A living thing |
| Resources | Food, shelter, water things from its environment that needs to live |
| Habitat | An environment that provides things a specific organism needs to grow live and reproduce |
| Biotic factors | The parts of a habit that were once alive and that interact with an organism |
| Abiotic factor | Non living parts of an organisms habitat |
| Population | All the members of one’s species |
| Community | All the different populations that live in the same area |
| Ecosystem | The study of how organisms live in an area with non living things |
| Population Density | The number of individuals that are in an area of a specific size |
| Limiting factor | An environmental factor that causes a population to stop growing or decrease in size. |
| Carrying capacity | The largest population that an area can support |
| Producer | An organism that can make its own food |
| A consumer | Obtains energy by feeding on other organisms |
| Decomposer | Break down biotic wastes and dead organisms |
| Food web | Consists of many overlapping food chains in an ecosystem |
| Food chain | A series in which an organism eats another organism and obtains energy and nutrients |
| Energy pyramid | Shows the amount of energy that moves from one feeding level to another in a food web. |
| Photosynthesis | The set of chemical reactions plants use to turn light, water, and nutrients into oxygen and energy, in the form of sugars |
| Symbiosis | Any relationship between in which two species live closely together. |
| Commensalism | A relationship in which both species benefit |
| Mutualism | Which is a relationship in which both species benefit |
| Parasitism | A relationship that involves one organism living with, on, or inside another organism harming it. |
| Predation | One organism is the predator and the other is prey |
| Niche | Includes how an organism obtains its food |
| Competition | The struggle between organisms to survive as they use the same limited resources. |
| Chlorophyll | A pigment chemical that absorbs light |
| Autotroph | An organism that makes its own food |
| Heterotrophs | An organism that gets it’s good from another organism |
| Scavenger | A carnivore that feeds on the bodies of dead organisms |
| Carnivore | Eats only animals |
| Herbivore | Eats only plants |
| Omnivore | Eats animals and plants |
