| Population | All the members of one living species in one area |
| Community | All the different populations that live together in an area |

| Ecology | The study of how organisms interact with each other and with their environment |
| Population density | The number of individuals in an area of a specific size |
| Limiting factor | An environmental factor that causes a population to stop growing |
| Carrying capacity | The largest population that an area can support |
| Producer | An organism that can make its own food |
| Consumer | Obtains energy by feeding on other organisms |
| Decomposer | Break down biotic wastes and returning the raw materials to the ecosystem |
| Food chain | A series of events in which one organism eats another and obtains energy |
| Food web | Consists of many overlapping food chains in an ecosystem |
| Energy pyramid | Shows the amount of energy that moves from one feeding level to another in a food web |
| Photosynthesis | A set of chemical reactions plants use to turn light ,water ,and nutrients into oxygen and energy |

| Heterotroph | An organism that has to get its food from another source and is unable to make its own food |
| Autotroph | An organism that makes its own food |
| Carnivore | Organism that only eats meat |
| Herbivore | Organism that only eats plants |
| Omnivore | Organism that eats both |
| Niche | The role of an organism in its habitat |
| Competition | The struggle between organisms to survive as they use the same limited resources is called competition |
| Predation | An interaction in which one organism kills another for food or nutrients |
| Symbiosis | Any relationship in which two species live closely together |
| Commensalism | Relationship when in which species benefit and the other species is neither helped nor harmed |
| Mutualism | Which is a relationship in which old species benefit |
| Parasitism | A relationship that involves not organism living with on or inside another organism and harming it |
