| Organism | living things |
| Habit | An environment that provides the hinges specific organism needs to live and grow and reproduce |
| Biotic factors | Parts of a habit that are were once alive |
| Abiotic factors | Are non living parts of an organism's habitat |
| Species | Is a group of organisms that can mate with each other and produce offspring |
| Population | One species living in a particular area |
| Community | All the different populations that live together in an area make up an community |
| Ecosystem | Organisms that lives in a particular area along with the non living environment |
| Ecology | The study of how organisms interact with each other and with their environment |
| Population density | The number of individuals in an area of a specific size |
| Limiting factor | An environmental facto that causes a population to stop growing or to decrease in size |
| Carrying capacity | The largest population that an area can support |
| Producer | An organism that can make it’s own food |
| Consumer | Obtains energy by feeding on other organisms |
| Scavenger | Is a carnivore that feeds on bodies of dead organisms |
| Herbivore | Are consumers that eat only plants |
| Carnivores | Eat only animals |
| Omnivores | Eat both plants and animals |
| Decomposer | Break down biotic wastes and dead organisms returning the raw material to the ecosystem |
| Food chain | Is a series of events in which one organism eat another and obtains energy |
| Food web | Consists of many overlapping food chains |
| Energy pyramid | Shows the amount of energy that moves from one feeding level to another in a food web |
| Chlorophyll | Plants leaves have green organelles called chlorophyll. Inside chlorophyll is a green pigment is a chemical compound that absorbs light. Chlorophyll absorbs light. |
| Autotroph | An organism that makes its one food |
| Heterotroph | An organism that has to get it a food from a source |
| Competition | When two species share a niche one of there population might be affected |
| Symbiosis | Is any relationship in which two species live closely together |
| Commensalism | Is a relationship in which one species benfits and the other species is nether helped nor harmed |
| Mutualism | Which is a relationship in which both species benfits. |
