Graded Potentials

stimulus causes ion channel to open which increases the permeability of plasma membrane to Na+, K+, or Cl-
increase permeability of the membrane to Na+ causes increased permeability of the membrane to K+ or Cl- causes depolarization. hyperpolarization
size of graded potential is proportional to strength of stimulus
graded potential can summate. thus, a graded potential produced in respnse to multiple stimuli is larger than one produced in response to a single stimuli
conducted in a decremental fashion, so magnitude decrease as they spread over membrane.
depolarizing graded potentials can combine(summate) to cause an action potential
