Interactions Sound
| Term | Definition |

| pitch | how high or low a sound is, depending on the frequency of the sound waves. |
| ultrasonic | describing sound waves that have a frequency higher than humans can hear |
| infrasonic | describing sound waves that have a frequency lower than humans can hear |
| doppler effect | the change in the observed frequency of a sound because the source and/or the listener is moving relative to each other. |
| intesity of sound | the amount of sound energy that passes through a unit area in one second |
| accoustics | the branch of physics that studies sound—how it is produced, transmitted, and received, and how it behaves in different spaces |
| sound quality | how pleasant or clear a sound is to listen to; it depends on the sound’s mix of frequencies, overtones, and how smoothly it is produced |
| timbre | the quality of a sound that makes it different from other sounds of the same pitch and loudnes |
| fundamental tone | the lowest natural frequency produced by a vibrating object |
| overtone | a higher frequency vibration produced along with the fundamental tone |
| sonar | a system that uses sound waves to detect and locate objects underwater by sending out sound pulses and measuring the echoes that bounce back. |
