QuestionAnswer
what are the main gases in Earth’s atmosphere? Mostly nitrogen and oxygen Mostly nitrogen and oxygen
What are the layers of Earth’s atmosphere? - Troposphere, - Stratosphere, -Mesosphere, - Thermosphere, -Exosphere
The troposphere This is the lowest layer, where we live.where weather occurs “weather layer”
Which of the following layers of the atmosphere is providing the air that we breathe? The troposphere
Stratosphere- This layer is above the troposphere. It has the ozone layer, which protects us from harmful sunlight “protection layer”
Mesosphere This is the middle layer. It’s very cold where most meters burn up “metor shield”
Thermosphere- This layer is very high up .It can get extremely hot, can see northern and souther lights “hot light layer”
Exosphere the outermost layer, merging into space
What is the difference between weather and climate? Weather is what it’s like right now or today Climate is what it’s like over a long time usually 30 years
Air pollutants- things in the air that shouldn’t be there and can cause harm.
Can you see air pollution- Some air pollution is visible (like smoke)Some is invisible (but still dangerous)
Clean air act- law in the USA that helps keep the air clean and safe to breathe.
Primary pollutants- substances that are already harmful as soon as they are released into the air.
Natural sources : Pollution that comes from nature(wildfires, volcanoes, dust storms)
Anthropogenic sources : Pollution caused by human activities(cars, factories, burning fuel)
Stationary sources: Pollution comes from something that doesn’t move (factories, power plants)
Mobile sources: Pollution comes from things that move around (cars, buses, airplanes)
What gas comprises the largest portion of Earth's atmosphere? nitrogen
Which layer of Earth's atmosphere contains the ozone layer that protects life from harmful UV radiation? Stratosphere
Seasons are a result o differences in the amount and intensity of sunlight brought about by the tilt of Earth's axis
Carbon monoxide blocks oxygen transport in human blood
Lead pollution is a problem because lead (Pb) causes central nervous system damage in humans
In the United States, which of the following has decreased since 1980? air pollution emissions
Which gas makes up 78% of the molecules in the atmosphere? N₂ — nitrogen
