Manitfest Destiny the belief that the US had the right to expand its territory from the Atlantic to the Pacific
Pioneers Someone who is the first to settle a region or begin a new project
Frontier a region with very few poeple living in it
Region an area that shares physcial or human characeristics
Migration the process of moving from one place to another
Settler a person who moves with another group of people to live in a new country or area.
Oregon Trail route used during Westeard migrations, especially from 1840-1860. It began in Missouri and ended in Oregon.
49ers nickname for a miner or another person who took part in the 1849 California Gold Rush.
Annex to take territory and join it to a state or country
Missouri Compromise a law passed by congress in 1820 that allowed Main to enter the Union as a free state while Missouri entered as a slave state.
Wagon Train a line of wagons traveling as a group
Prairie Schooner a covered wagon with large wheels used for transportation to the West
Persecution poor treatment of a person or group based on thier religion
Fact information that can be proven by including dates, times,
opinion the way someone feels about a topic; this cannot be proven
Gold Rush the quick movement of peoplt to a place where gold has been discovered
Discrimination unfair treatment of people based on thier race, gender, or age
Pony Express mail service to California provided by riders on swift horses
Trail of Tears the forced March of 15,000 Cherokee in 1838, traveling from American southeast to Indian Territory in present-day Oklahoma.
