TermDefinition
Main Idea Central Point or most important message of a text.
Author's Purpose The reason the author wrote the text.
Theme The underlying message or lesson in a story.
Infer To reach a conclusion using Clues and evidence.
Indicates Shows or suggest something without stating it directly.
Tone The author's attitude towards the subject.
Objective Based on facts and not influenced by personal feelings.
Subjective Based on personal opinions or feelings.
Satirical Using humor or exaggeration to criticize something.
Connotation The emotional or cultural meaning associated with a word.
Denotation The literal dictionary definition of a word.
Reinforces Strengthens or supports an idea or claim.
Illustrates Explains or clarify something by giving an example.
Emphasizes Give special importance or stress to an idea.
Refutes Proves that a statement or argument is wrong.
Optimistic Having a helpful and positive outlook.
Skeptical Doubting that something is true.
Cynical Believing that people are motivated mainly by self-interest.
Analytical Examining something carefully to understand it.
