Plane mirror a flat, smooth mirror
Virtual image an image that your brain perceives even though no light rays pass through the location of that image
concave mirror is a mirror whose surface curves inward
Optical axis is an imaginary straight line drawn perpendicular to the surface of the mirror at the mirror’s center
Focal point is the point on the optical axis on which light rays that are initially parallel to the optical axis converge after they reflect off the mirror
Focal length the distance from the center of the mirror to the focal point
Real image is an image that is formed when light rays converge to form the image
Convex mirror is a mirror that curves outward, like the back of a spoon
Convex lens is a lens that is thicker in the middle than at the edges
Concave lens is a lens that is thinner in the middle and thicker at the edges
Cornea a transparent covering on you eyeball where light enters your eye
Retina is the inner lining of your eye,which has cells that convert the light image into electrical signals
Refracting telescope a telescope that uses lenses to gather light from distant objects
Reflecting telescope a telescope that uses mirrors and lenses to collect and focus light from distant objects
Microscope is a device that uses two convex lenses with relatively short focal lengths to magnify small,close objects
