base (of a power) the base of a power is the common factor
exponent indicates the number of times a base is used as a factor
power a product of repeated factors
Power of a Product Property find the power of each factor and multiply
Product of Powers Property to multiply powers with the same base, add their exponents
Property of Negative Exponents For any integer n and any nonzero number a^-n is the reciprocal of a^n
Property of Zero Exponents For any nonzero number a, a^0 = 1. The power of 0^0 is undefined.
Quotient of Powers Property to divide powers with the same base, subtract their exponents
scientific notation when a number is represented as the product of a factor and a power of 10. The factor must be greater than or equal to 1 and less than 10.
