Deportation N. The act of expelling a foreigner from a country Example: There used to be a lot of deportation in Nazi Germany
Detention N. Act of detaining someone in official custody Example: People were put in detention for acting against the law
Fugitive N. A person who has escaped from a place or is in hiding Example: There were many fugitives in Nazi Germany
Quarrels N. Arguments, Disagreements Example: The two men had many quarrels
Gestapo N. A secret police force of Nazi Germany, known for its brutality Example: The Gestapo were very brutal against the Jewish.
Foreboding N. Sudden feeling that something bad is going to happen Example: He had a foreboding feeling about going to the park.
Apprehension N. Fearful feeling about what will happen next Example: His apprehension of going to the haunted house turned out to be right.
Intuition N. Ability to see the truth of something immediately without reasoning Example: He used his intuition to find many ways.
Mounting Adj. Increasing gradually, Building up Example: His skills are mounting
Rigid Adj. Stiff and Unbending Example: The structure is very rigid
Insistent Adj. Demanding that something should happen Example: He was very insistent on his argument
Devoted Adj. Showing strong commitment, loyalty, and dedication over a long period of time Example: He was very devoted to completing his mission
Preserving V. Protecting something important so it is not lost, damaged, or forgotten Example: He was preserving the relic from the ancient times.
Resembled V. Looked very similar to something else Example: The picture looked like it resembled an animal
Relic N. Treasured object kept because of a strong emotional or historical importance Example: He found an ancient relic
Humanity N. Kindness, compassion, and belief in goodness of people Example: Even though it does not show, he still has hope for humanity
Legacy N. What a person leaves behind that continues to influence others after their death Example: The pirate's legacy was a great treasure that influenced the world to search for it.
Analyze V. To look closely at small parts of a text to see how they work together and affect the whole Example: He analyzed the text for errors
Background Info N. The new info that helps the reader better contextualize and understand a specific text Example: The reader provided no clear background information.
Context N. Encompasses a text, its speakers, audience, purpose, and the circumstances that surround the text Example: He provided a lot of context for the situation
Latin suffix -Ent Adj. Example: Student, Person who studies at a school, college, or university to acquire knowledge, skills, etc.
Latin suffix -Tion N. Example: Presentation, The action of placing before, making something present to others.
Latin prefix Co- Example: Cooperate, To work/act together with 1 or more people or groups toward a common goal.
Latin root -Mit- Example: Transmit, To send across
