archetype n a universal, recurring symbol, character type, setting, or plot pattern in literature The book is a perfect archetype of the genre.
era n A distinct span of time in history defined by shared intellectual artistic, cultural, or social characteristics. There have been many eras.
movement n A collective trend in literature where a group of authors, often within a specific timeframe. The authors had a movement.
historical account n A narrative or record documenting past events, often focusing on accuracy, evidence, and chronological order. The author had a historical account.
position n an author's stance or relationship to the topic and evidence. The author's position was awkward.
coherent adj A logically organized piece of writing where ideas, sentences, and paragraphs connect clearly. His essay was coherent.
focus n The central idea, theme, or topic that anchors a text and direct the audience's attention. The author had a clear focus
connotation n meanings attached to a word beyond its literal definition. The sentence had a connotation within it.
curate n to select organize, and present content often using expert knowledge or theme. We curate our merchandise with a sharp eye for trending fashion.
text feature n A component of a text that helps readers locate certain information. The text feature was helpful.
Prefix co- coherent- clearly connected His essay was coherent.
Prefix arch- A universal pattern or plot The book is a perfect archetype of the genre.
herded v moved a group of people or animals in particular. The farmer herded the sheep.
sharp adj A sharp object or idea has a fine, precise edge or point that cuts or stands out clearly. It was a sharp knife
boarded v to get onto a vehicle such as a bus, train, plane, or ship. She boarded the bus quickly so she wouldn’t be late for school.
catapulted v to be thrown of launched forward suddenly and with great force. The boy catapulted the ferrets.
lurched v sudden, unsteady, or jerky kind of movement. The bus lurched to the side when the driver swerved to avoid the fallen tree branch.
struggling v having a hard time doing something, facing difficulty, or trying very hard to overcome a challenge. He was struggling to carry the groceries, but managed to accomplish it somehow.
impairments n conditions that weaken, limit, or reduce a person's ability to do something. The storm caused power impairments across the city.
frustrated adj a feeling of upset, annoyed, or, discouraged. The man was frustrated after not being able to complete the puzzle.
