| Interdependence: | how all organisms in an ecosystem depend on one another |
| Population: | total number of one species in an area |
| Community: | all species living in an area |
| Ecosystem: | all the living and nonliving things in one area |
| Biome: | a collection of ecosystems |
| Biosphere: | a collection of biomes (aka Earth) |
| Sustainability: | the ability to support environment or species |
| Quantitative data: | data that relates to numbers |
| Greenhouse gas: | gas that can absorb harmful radiation in the Earth’s atmosphere |
| Biomass: | the amount of energy produced in an ecosystem |
| Mutualism: | both organisms benefit |
| Parasitism: | one benefits and one is harmed |
| Commensalism: | one benefits and one is not affected |
| Coevolution: | two species adapt and evolve together to benefit each other |
| Cooperation: | two organisms work together for a mutual benefit |
| Competition: | organisms battle for resources |
| Density-dependent: | factor that affects the size of a population, also known as a regulating factor (disease, competition, predation) |
| Density independent: | factors that limit the number of individuals in an area regardless of the size of the population (flooding, natural disasters, available oxygen) |
| Invasive species: | a species that inhabits a new ecosystem and causes great distress to native organisms |
| Mimicry: | one organisms attempts to copy or replicate actions, shapes, or colors of another |
