fugitive n A person who has escaped or is in hiding to avoid arrest. The fugitive was wanted for serious charges.
quarrels n arguments; disagreements The quarrels in the class quieted down when the teacher walked in.
Gestapo n Secret police force of Nazi Germany The Gestapo is infamously known for their work in WWII
foreboding n Sudden feeling something bad is going to happen A foreboding feeling made the boy feel hesitant about his idea.
apprehension n Fearful feeling about what will happen next The apprehension of the fugitive had become reality.
intuition n ability to see the truth of something immediately without reasoning My mom's intuition is never wrong.
mounting adj increasing gradually; building up The horse mounting class was very easy.
rigid adj stiff and unbending The rigid surface was very uncomfortable.
insistent adj demanding that something should happen The insistent pleas of the students made the teacher give in.
devoted adj Showing strong commitment, loyalty, and dedication over a long period of time. The girl was devoted to win the competition.
preserving v Protecting something important so it is not lost, damaged, or forgotten. The Muslims continue preserving their religion to this day.
resembled v Looked very similar to someone else. The girl resembled a famous music star.
relic n A treasured object kept because it has strong emotional or historical importance. The ancient relic was said to bestow magical powers.
humanity n Kindness, compassion, and belief in the goodness of people. Humanity as a whole rose up to fight the alien invaders.
legacy n What a person leaves behind that continues to influence others after their death. Einstein's legacy of the impact he made in math has changed the world for the better.
analyze v to look closely at the small parts of a text to see how they work together and affect the whole. The scientists had to analyze the bones to see what animal they belong to.
background information n the (new) information that helps a reader better contextualize and understand a specific text. The background information about WWII let me infer what would happen next in the passage.
context n encompasses a text, its speakers, its audience, its purposes, and the circumstances that surround the text, including the time period, and major historical, cultural, or literary events may impact the context. I have deep context when it comes to gaming.
