deportation (n) the act of expelling someone from a country. (ex) The deportation process was tedious.
detention (n) the act of keeping someone in custody. (ex) The prisoner was kept in detention for a year
fugitive (n)) a person who has escaped or is in hiding to avoid arrest. (ex) The fugitive hid in a house to avoid the cops.
quarrels (n) arguments; disagreement. (ex) My parents have many quarrels.
Gestapo (n) secret police force of Nazi Germany, known for its brutality. (ex) The Gestapo closed in on Anne Frank's hiding place.
foreboding (n) sudden feeling that something bad is going to happen. (ex) With sudden foreboding, he asked if Anne was gone.
apprehension (n) fearful feeling about what will happen next. (ex) The apprehension of the criminal is important to public safety because.
intuition (n) ability to see the truth of something immediately without reasoning. (ex) His intuition made him jump to avoid the flying object.
mountain (adj) increasing gradually; building up. (ex) He was mounting up the mountain.
rigid (adj) stiff and unbending. (ex) The surface is very rigid.
insistent (adj) demanding that something should happen. (ex) He was insistent on letting me copy his answers.
devoted (adj) showing strange commitment, loyalty, and dedication over a long period of time. (ex) I am devoted to my religion.
persevering (v) protecting something important so it is not lost, damaged, or forgotten. (ex) The preserving of the artifact is important to the research.
resembled (v) looked very similar to someone else. (ex) Ethan kind of resembled Ryan.
relic (n) a treasured object kept because it had strong emotional or historical importance. (ex) The Pikachu was a relic of my childhood.
humanity (n) kindness, compassion, and belief in the goodness of people. (ex) My faith in humanity has been restored.
legacy (n) what a person leaves behind that to continues to influence others after their death. (ex) The legacy of FDR will never be forgotten.
analyze (v) to look closely at the small parts of a text to see how they work together and affect the whole world. (ex) I analyze each detail carefully.
background information (n) the (new) information that helps a reader better contextual and understand a specific text. (ex) The background information gave me more context of the story.
context (n) encompasses a text, its speakers, its audience, its purposes, and the circumstances that surround the text, including the time period and major historical, cultural, or literary events may impact the context. (ex) The context of it made no sense.
Latin suffix: -ent definition: state of being; quality Word that uses -ent: statement Definition of that word: A definite or clear expression of something in speech or writing.
Latin suffix -tion definition: act of Word that uses -tion: action Definition of that word: The fact or process of doing something, typically to achieve an aim.
