Astronomy

QuestionAnswer
Revolution The movement of an object around another object
Rotation The spinning motion of a planet on its axis
Axis The imaginary line that passes through Earth's center at the North and South Poles
Composition What something is made of
Comets A ball of ice and dust in space
Asteroids A small rocky object
Meteoroids A small piece of an asteroid or comet
Moon Phases The amount of light or dark of the moon we see, this changes with the position of the sun, moon, and Earth
Waning When the moon is losing light, the dark starts on the right side
Waxing When the moon is gaining light, the light starts on the right side
Crescent When the moon is less than 50% lit, but more than 0% lit
Gibbous When the moon is less than 100% lit, but more than 50%
Solar Eclipse When the sun gets blocked by the moon
Lunar Eclipse When the moon gets blocked the Earth's shadow
Tilt The angle that the earth or other objects are bent when spinning
Orbit The path that an object takes when it revolves/moved around another object
Seasons Periods of the year with specific weather conditions, due to tilt of the earth, the side tilted towards the sun gets more light and will be in summer, the side tiled away will get less sun and will be in winter
Sunlight The light from the sun. lights up the half of the object facing the sun
Gravity The pull from any object with mass. the more mass of the objects or the closer you are, the greater the gravitational pull
Inertia The tendency of an objects at rest to stay at rest or an object in motion to stay in motion until changed by an outside force
Equator An imaginary line drawn around the center of the Earth, located exactly halfway between the North and South Poles
