| The Absolute or absolutist monarchy. | It is when there is a king/queen in the government and only he/she rules. |
| Contemporary age | It began in Spain in 1808 when the War of Independence broke out. |
| French Revolution | The Contemporary Age begins in Europe in 1789 |
| Constitution | It is the fundamental law of a state, superior to all other laws. Decrees, regulations, etc., come after and are of lesser importance. |
| Spanish Constitution | The system of laws of a countrythat stablishes the cityzens right and freedom. |
| Estate Society | Each person belongs to a social group, depending on their birth, and each group has its own rights, very different from one another. |
| Constitutional Monarchy | It is ruled by a king/queen but with a constitution. |
| Parliamentary Monarchy | It is ruled by a king/queen, but with a parliament. |
| Republic | This is when the head of state is not a king, but a president elected by the citizens. |
| Industrial revolution | A profound change in the ways of working, traveling, and living, which began in the 18th century and laid the social and economic foundations of the modern world. It arrived in Spain in the 19th century. |

| Social classes | These are groups in society distinguished by their level of wealth. They are categorized as the upper class, the middle class, and the lower class. |
| Upper class | Wealthy people, usually the aristocracy (nobles) and the bourgeoisie (wealthy citizens; bankers, factory owners, large merchants and high state officials) |
| Midle class | People who worked and owned their own land. They were also merchants, civil servants, military personnel, journalists, small business owners, or those engaged in liberal professions such as doctors, lawyers, etc. |
| Lower class | Peasants who worked other people's land for a daily wage. They could barely survive on what they earned. |
