TermDefinition
Archetype (N) A universal, recurring symbol, character type, setting, or plot pattern in literature that evokes a deep, instinctive response across cultures and time periods. The books archetype is great.
Era (N) A distinct span of time in history defined by shared intellectual, artistic, cultural, or social characteristics in literature. People say that we are the era of AI advancement.
Movement (N) A collective trend in literature where a group of authors, often within a specific timeframe or location, share common philosophies, artistic styles, themes, or goals. The civil rights movement was a big historical event.
Historical account (N) A narrative or record documenting past events, often focusing on accuracy, evidence, and chronological order. The tape is a Historical account.
Position (N) An author's stance or relationship to the topic and audience. The ceo is the highest position in a company.
Coherent (ADJ) A logically organized piece of writing where ideas, sentences, and paragraphs connect clearly to create an easily understood whole.
Focus (N) The central controlling idea, theme, or topic that anchors a text, ensuring coherence by directing the audience’s attention to essential details. The main focus of the book is never give up.
Connotation (N) The emotional, cultural, or associative meanings attached to a word beyond its literal definition. I avoided using the word “urgent” because of its connotation.
Curate (V) To select, organize, and present content, items, or artistic works, often using expert knowledge to provide context or a specific theme. He became the curate of a small parish.
Text Feature (N) A component of a text that helps readers locate, understand, and organize information, particularly in non-fiction. For example, indexes, page numbers, headings, illustrations, and captions. There are many text features in a book.
Coexist (V) Exist at the same time and place. All the animals in a forest coexist.
Archenemy (N) The person who is extremely hostile or opposed to someone or something. The archenemy is always likely to be the main villain.
Herded (V)Moved a group of people or animals in a particular direction. The sheep are herded so they don't run away.
Sharp (ADJ) Highly intelligent, perceptive, and able to understand complex situations rapidly. The detective was very sharp.
Boarded (V) Lived and ate at a location (often someone’s home) for payment. We boarded a house for a few days.
Drafted (V) Involuntarily and mandatorily enlisted into military service. For the past few years no one has been drafted.
Ignorant (ADJ) Lacking knowledge or awareness; uneducated or unsophisticated. The ignorant man gambled his life savings away.
Flung (V) Threw with force. They flung the little bug into the forest.
Catapulted (V) Launched forward with machine like force. For a circus act they catapulted a man.
Lurched (V) Moved unsteadily. The zombies lurched forward.
Struggling (V) Trying to do with difficulty. The plants where struggling for sunlight.
Impairments (N) Injury/Damage. The team won even with multiple impairments.
Frustrated (ADJ) Angry for not accomplishing. Sometimes people get very frustrated at others.
