Deportation POS: n. Definition: The act of expelling Sentence: Governments use deportation to punish criminals and remove them from the country.
Detention POS: n. Definition: The act of keeping someone in custody (ex. A political prisoner) Sentence: The detention of suspects is common procedure in many crimes.
Fugitive POS: n. Definition: A person who has escaped or is in hiding to avoid arrest Sentence: The criminal escaped prison and became a fugitive.
Quarrels POS: n. Definition: Arguments/disagreements Sentence: Siblings have many quarrels and disagreements through the years.
Gestapo POS: n. Definition: Secret police force of Nazi Germany, known for its brutality Sentence: Jews must be careful not to be caught be the Gestapo.
Foreboding POS: n. Definition: Sudden feeling that something bad is going to happen. Sentence: With a sense of foreboding, she read the note.

Intuition POS: n. Definition: Ability to see the truth in something immediately without reasoning. Sentence: Jacob didn't study, but he passed the quiz using only his intuition.
Mounting POS: adj. Definition: Increasing gradually; building up. Sentence: She anticipated her trip with mounting excitement.
Rigid POS: adj. Definition: Stiff and unbending. Sentence: The rigid wood refused to bend.
Insistent POS: adj. Definition: Demanding that something should happen. Sentence: The boy was insistent - he really wanted that toy.
Devoted POS: adj. Definition: Showing strong commitment, loyalty, and dedication over a long period of time Sentence: Followers of a religion are often very devoted and loyal to their god.
Preserving POS: v. Definition: Protecting something important so it is not lost, damaged, or forgotten Sentence: Many scientists and museum owners are focused on preserving priceless artifacts.
Resembled POS: v. Definition: Looked very similar to someone else Sentence: She resembled her sister so much that people thought they were twins.
Relic POS: n. Definition: A treasured object kept because it has strong emotional or historical importance Sentence: The historical relic is treasured by every nation in the area.
Humanity POS: n. Definition: Kindness, compassion, and belief in the goodness of people Sentence: We appealed to his sense of humanity and morals.

Analyze POS: v. Definition: to look closely at the small parts of a text to see how they work together and affect the whole Sentence: The teacher showed us how to analyze a passage to better understand the text.
Background information POS: n. Definition: the (new) information that helps a reader better contextualize and understand a specific text Sentence: The background information - specifically the time period - allowed readers to better understand the text.
Context POS: n. Definition: encompasses a text and the circumstances that surround the text, including the time period and major events may that impact the context Sentence: The context of the time period gave me a better understanding of the text.
