Genetics

QuestionAnswer
Heredity Trait that is passed from one generation to the next
Chromosome Made of DNA and found in nucleus. Contains the genetic information
Heterozygous When two genes for a trait are different- one is dominant and the other is recessive
Homozygous When two genes for a trait are the same- two dominant or two recessive
Dominant Controlling trait, allele whose trait always shows up in the organisms
Recessive An allele that is hidden whenever the dominant allele is present
Probability a number that describes how likely it is that a particular event will occur
Genotype an organism’s makeup or genes, or allele combinations
Phenotype an organism physical appearance or visible traits.
Punnett Square a mathematical method used to predict the genetic outcome
Gene Section of a chromosome that determines a trait
