allele a version of a gene
gene section of DNA that contains the instructions for making a protein
dominant the allele that "wins" and determines the trait
recessive the allele that "loses"; it only shows if there are two copies of the allele
phenotype the traits of an organism; what an organism looks like
genotypes the alleles that an organism has
homozygous having two of the SAME alleles of a gene
heterozygous having two DIFFERENT alleles of a gene
heredity the passing of traits from parents to offspring
genetics the STUDY of how traits are passed from parents to offspring
