Pressure Force exerted over an area. P=F/A
Force A mass times its acceleration. F=ma
Air Pressure The amount of force per unit area that a gas exerts on a surface.
Atmospheric Pressure Weight of the overlying column of air or atmosphere on a surface.
Barometer Instrument used to measure atmospheric pressure.
Standard Atmospheric Pressure Mean atmospheric pressure at sea level.
Standard units for atmospheric pressure Pounds per square inch (psi), pascals, millibars, millimeters of mercury.
Density Control Factor for barometric pressure at the surface. Mass divided by volume. P=m/v. Directly related. Altitude or elevation is a primary control on air density.
Temperature of the Air Control factor for barometric pressure at the surface. Ideal gas law. PV=nRT. P=nRT/V
