|---|---|
| What is the water cycle? | The continuous movement of water through the environment of Earth. |
| What is the difference between fresh water and salt water? | Fresh water is not salty, has little to no taste, color or smell and salt water contains dissolved salts and other minerals. |
| What are some examples of fresh water sources? | pond, lake, river, stream, groundwater, spring, and rain (catchment), well, water in the atmosphere, and Lake Michigan |
| What are some examples of salt water sources? | ocean, sea, estuary, Gulf of Mexico/America |
| Water that forms on the outside of a drinking glass as the outside air cools is what process? | Condensation |
| Name the process in which water changes from a liquid to a gas. | Evaporation |
| Name the process in which water changes from a gas back to a liquid. | Condensation |
| What is the process of water falling to the ground from clouds that comes in many forms dependent on the temperature? Precipitation (rain, snow, sleet, hail). | Precipitation |
| The gas form of water is called what? | water vapor |
| Why does water vapor in the air condense into liquid droplets? | Condensation occurs as the water cools in the air. |
| How much of Earth's surface is covered by water? | 3/4 or 75% |
| Of Earth's water which is there more of freshwater or salt water? | salt water |
| What type of water do humans and most land animals need in order to stay alive: fresh water or salt water? | fresh water |
| What percentage of Earth's water is salt water? | 97% |
| What percentage of Earth's water is fresh water? | 3% |
| Water is unique because it can come in three different forms. What are they. | Solid, Liquid, Gas |
| What causes water to change forms? | temperature |
| Boiling water is an example of water in what form? | gas OR water vapor |
| Ice is an example of water in what form? | solid |
| A glass of water is an example of water in what form? | liquid |
