What is a tissue? Integrated group of similar cells that perform a common function.
What is an organ? Two or more tissues that form a specific task
What is an organ system? Multiple organs that work to function together
What are the four types of tissues? Nervous, Muscle, Connective, Epithelial
Where are epithelial tissues? Sheets of closely packed cells that cover organs and cavities
Which tissue most commonly causes cancer? Epithelial tissue
What is the basal side of the epithelial tissue? Bottom surface side
What is the apical side of epithelial tissue? The top side that faces the outside of the organ or cavity
What are the three types of shapes epithelial tissues? squamous, cubodial, columnar
What is the difference between simple and stratified epithelial tissues? simple is one layer of the epithelial tissue and stratified is two or more layers of epithelial tissue
What are the six different types of connective tissues? Looses Connective tissue, Fibrous dense connective tissue, Cartilage, Bones, Blood, Muscle
Define Loose Connective Tissue. Loose connective tissue is the most common epithelial tissue, highly vascularized, made of loose collagen fibers in watery substance
What type of connective tissue is blood vessels or adipose tissue? Loose Connective tissue
Define Fibrous dense connective tissue. Densely packed collagen in a watery substance, low vascularization
What type of connective tissue is a ligament or your ACL? Fibrous Dense Connective Tissue
Define Cartilage Connective Tissue. Collagen or rubber like material, low vascularization, used alot for shock absorption
Define Bones as Connective Tissues. Densely packed fibers, highly vascularized, used for support and protection also a point for muscle attachment
Define Blood as Connective Tissue. Made up of a matrix called plasma, RBC & WBC, used to transport gases and nutrients, and used for immune defense
Define Muscle as a Connective Tissue. Used for movement
What is the most abundant Connective Tissue? Muscle Connective Tissue
What are the three muscle types? Skeletal Muscle, Cardiac Muscle, and Smooth Muscle
Define Skeletal Muscle. multinucleitated, large, striped appearance, voluntary movement
Define Cardiac Muscle Mononucleiated, branched cells, striped in apperance, involuntary movement
